Woman to Stand Trial in Santa Clarita Theft

Missing persons maven June Ramsay Littlefield, arrested in Arkansas after she fled theft and forgery charges in Santa Clarita, will be returned to California to stand trial, Arkansas officials said Friday.

Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton approved Littlefield’s extradition on Monday, Clinton’s press secretary Michael Gauldin said. Littlefield, who was arrested Aug. 30 in a rural community 80 miles north of Little Rock, had resisted returning to California.

In Santa Clarita, Littlefield faces 17 counts of forgery and grand theft for allegedly taking about $6,300 in altered checks while she worked as a painting contractor’s bookkeeper. She has denied the charges.

The self-proclaimed founder of a now-defunct group called Missing Persons International, Littlefield, 54, disappeared sometime before the May 29 start of her trial in San Fernando Superior Court. Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies traced her to Arkansas, where she and her husband, Chuck, were living with a relative.

Mike Botula, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, said the date of Littlefield’s return has not been determined because Clinton’s office has not yet notified Los Angeles authorities of his approval of her extradition.
