HUNTINGTON BEACH : Library Annex May Move to School Site

Oak View Elementary School, where a community center and police substation have been located in recent years, may soon also be the site of a Huntington Beach library annex.

The city plans to move five connected mobile homes from downtown to the site next to the school, where the facility would be converted into a 360-square-foot library branch.

Ocean View School District trustees this week tentatively approved the plan to open the facility. The City Council will consider the proposal next month.

The exact price of moving and refurbishing the vacant downtown building has not been determined yet, but is expected to cost up to $75,000, said Jan Halvorsen, the city’s library services manager.

The project would be paid for entirely by the city, using its share of federal Community Development Block Grant funds, Halvorsen said. The school district would donate only the land, next to the police substation and community center.
