MISSION VIEJO : Appeal of Business Approval Scheduled

Share

An appeal over a Planning Commission decision to allow construction of an automotive service business will be heard by the City Council today.

Concerned over potential noise problems at a proposed 4,900-square-foot auto center in the Crown Valley Retail Center at Crown Valley and Marguerite parkways, residents filed the appeal shortly after the commission voted 3 to 2 to approve the service center on Oct. 7.

Under plans presented by the Mission Viejo Co., the repair shop would concentrate on selling tires and vehicle service such as tuneups, brake repairs and wheel alignments. Major engine and transmission work would be farmed out to other repair shops.

The Crown Valley Retail Center is a commercial plaza composed of restaurants, a pharmacy, photocopy shop and other businesses.

In addition to the noise concerns, members of the Cordova Homeowners Assn. say that the Mission Viejo Co.’s application to amend the city’s original approval of the shopping center is improper. Their appeal filed with the city claims that the auto center use is not compatible with the surrounding residential neighborhood.
