The San Diego-based America’s Cup syndicate Stars & Stripes finished second in an abbreviated two-race regatta that served as a debut for a new model of 54 1/2-foot yachts Sunday at San Diego Harbor.

The event was called the Formula One America’s Cup Syndicate Championship and it served as a preview of the Formula One Grand Prix Championship regatta with the same boats this weekend.

After Saturday’s race was scratched because of light winds, Stars & Stripes turned in second- and third-place finishes in two races Sunday in an event that featured U.S., Spanish, Japanese and French crews.

Scottish Enterprise, skippered by Pedro Campos of Desafio Espana, won the regatta by finishing first in both races. Scottish Enterprise beat Hawsta by 19 seconds in the first race and led Stars and Stripes, skippered by John Bertrand, by 1:24 across the finish in the second.
