Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Shuttle Crew Starts Spotting ‘Targets’
The space shuttle Atlantis’ six astronauts began more than a week of military observations and medical tests after accomplishing their main task--dispatching a $300-million spy satellite for the Pentagon. The crew’s first full day in orbit also was to include exercises in spotting targets from 224 miles up. Army imagery analyst Thomas J. Hennen, a crew member who is not a full-time astronaut, was scheduled to peer through a telescope out a window in the cabin, looking for about 30 targets during the 10-day flight. Many of Hennen’s targets are secret.
