A man accused of shooting into a Paradise Hill duplex and killing a 13-year-old girl pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of murder and attempted murder.

Michael Hansen, 25, made his plea to Superior Court Judge Herbert J. Exarhos, who set a trial date of March 16.

Killed in the Sept. 19 attack was Diane Rosalez, an eighth-grade student at Granger Junior High School. Also in the room with Rosalez, but escaping injury, was her 5-year-old brother.

Prosecutors say Hansen drove to the Rosalez home in the 5600 block of Albemarle Street and opened fire. The girl was talking on the phone when she was struck in the head by a 9-millimeter bullet.
