THOUSAND OAKS : Pair Convicted of Assaulting Resident
Two men were convicted of assault Wednesday in Ventura County Superior Court for bursting into a Thousand Oaks home and threatening to shoot the resident.
David Guarino, 28, and Michael Harsha, 27, both of Thousand Oaks, went to the El Segundo Drive home of Karl Savokinas on Aug. 26, said Senior Deputy Dist. Atty. Charles R. Roberts Sr. Guarino knocked on the front door and accused Savokinas, 23, of stealing tools, the prosecutor said.
When Savokinas denied the allegation, Guarino punched and pistol-whipped him, Roberts said. A struggle ensued and the gun went off, prompting Harsha, who was waiting outside the back door, to rush inside, Roberts said.
Harsha, armed with a shotgun, fired twice before the intruders fled, the prosecutor said. They were arrested less than an hour later. Savokinas was treated for minor injuries.
