Oxnard’s municipal elections are still a year away, but two potential candidates already have announced that they may run for office.
Political consultant Andres Herrera, a onetime aide to Supervisor John K. Flynn and former chairman of the Latino Coalition for Fair Representation, said this week that he plans to run for a council seat.
Herrera, 45, said he plans to formally announce his plans in January.
The November election will be for the seats occupied by Councilwoman Dorothy Maron and Mayor Pro Tem Gerry Furr. Maron and Furr have not announced whether they will run again.
Perennial candidate Roy Lockwood also announced that he will run for mayor if current Mayor Nao Takasugi decides to run for a seat on the County Board of Supervisors.
