Tammy Story’s driving layup with four seconds remaining gave 20th-ranked USC a 50-49 season-opening victory over the University of San Francisco Wednesday night at the Lyon Center.

Lisa Leslie, a preseason all-American, scored 17 points before fouling out with six minutes remaining with USC leading, 43-42.

USF (2-1), which led most of the game, went ahead 49-46 on a jump shot by Tami Adkins, but USC’s Joni Easterly made two free throws.

A baseline shot by Easterly then rimmed out and was retrieved by USF’s Joy Boyenga, who stepped on the sideline, giving possession back to USC.

Story went to the top of the three-point line before driving to left side and making the winning layup.
