COUNTYWIDE : Courier Will Collect Donations of Toys
An area courier company will pick up Christmas gifts from businesses in Ventura County this year and deliver them free of charge to Toys for Tots in Oxnard.
For the second straight year, Westwind Express Courier of Newbury Park will volunteer vans and personnel to collect the donations, which will then be distributed among poor children in the county.
“This program makes it more convenient for people to get toys to families who can’t afford them,” said Westwind President Steve Keihner, whose company spends about $2,500 during the holiday season to pick up toys. “To me, it’s the most important thing we do all year long.”
Beginning Dec. 1, toys will be collected from businesses. Last year, employees donated more than 3,000 toys, Keihner said.
