Kurdish rebels vowed to turn 1992 into “a year of hell” for Turkey. “We will step up military operations against the Turkish army until the Turks yield to the political solution,” a senior aide to Kurdish Workers’ Party chief Abdullah Ocalan told thousands of Kurds in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, site of a training camp. Ocalan told reporters that his guerrillas are no longer trying to establish an independent state in mainly Kurdish southeast Turkey, but he vowed to keep up the violent struggle unless Ankara’s new coalition government makes concessions.
