CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : BAKERSFIELD : Hostages Freed by Colombian Rebels

A Bakersfield man was one of three American oil workers who were freed in Colombia after being abducted by leftist rebels a year ago, according to the U.S. Embassy. Robert Hogan of Bakersfield and John Bagby and Gary Sams of Tulsa, Okla., were released in the northeastern city of Cucuta, along with a Colombian oil worker who was abducted with them, an embassy spokesman said. The spokesman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he had no information on what prompted their release, what condition they were in, or what hardships they had suffered in captivity. The Americans and the Colombian, Ignacio Alonso, were being flown Friday from Cucuta to the capital, Bogota, and from there would travel home, according to the embassy. The men were kidnaped by rebels of the leftist National Liberation Army on Nov. 25, 1990, at a remote job site near the Venezuelan border.
