Share

The Police Department held its first awards ceremony this month to honor four officers for outstanding service.

During festivities Nov. 14 at the local Holiday Inn, Officer Stacy Henry received the Medal of Merit for trying to save a 73-year-old invalid who died in a house fire last year. Detective Carlos Calderon received the same honor for assisting Henry, who suffered smoke inhalation.

Henry and Officer Ruben Gonzalez earned the Distinguished Service Medal for collecting more than $1,000 in cash and other gifts for two families who lost their homes in fires two years ago on Christmas Eve. Officer Thomas C. Loy received a similar medal for making the most arrests in 1990. Officer David Cassidy received an award for recovering the most stolen vehicles during the same period.
