World IN BRIEF : TOGO : Heavy Gunfire at Premier’s Home

Heavy shooting broke out early today around the official residence of Prime Minister Joseph Koffigoh, witnesses in Lome said. Rebellious troops who have mounted a five-day siege of the building appeared to be moving in to capture it. Earlier Koffigoh had offered to include supporters of former dictator Gnassingbe Eyadema in the interim government. Koffigoh, however, adamantly refused demands by rebel troops surrounding the government’s headquarters that he dissolve his government and return Eyadema to power.
