Long Beach : Waste Firm Will Pay Fine to Resolve State Complaint
A Long Beach waste company has agreed to pay a $250,000 penalty to settle a state complaint that the firm has continually violated environmental regulations in recent years.
In settling the case, Crosby & Overton Inc. has not admitted committing any violations. But it has agreed to pay a $200,000 fine and perform $50,000 worth of emergency cleanup work for state or local agencies, according to the California Environmental Protection Agency.
The agency contends that during the past two years the west-side firm has improperly stored and treated a number of hazardous materials, including oily waste water, solvents, acids and paint wastes. A recent state inspection found that the company, which primarily handles waste from the oil industry, had corrected the violations.
