Long Beach : Los Altos Redevelopment Plan Gets City Council OK

Share

The City Council has approved a Redevelopment Agency plan to revive the Los Altos Shopping Center, an aging retail complex that has long suffered from poor sales.

Under the plan, redevelopment money can be used to renovate and expand the shopping center in an effort to attract better stores and more shoppers. City officials believe that the center could thrive if it could tap into the affluent market that surrounds the east-side complex on Bellflower Boulevard.

The redevelopment effort will be the latest of a number of largely unsuccessful attempts to strengthen Long Beach’s weak sales tax income and retailing base. Much to the frustration of local officials, local shoppers tend to spend their dollars elsewhere.
