An enlisted man at the Port Hueneme Naval Construction Battalion Center will be charged with child cruelty, a Ventura County prosecutor said Wednesday.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Mary C. Peace said charges would be filed today against Tracy Holt Sr., 20, stemming from incidents between July and September involving his 7-month-old son.

Oxnard Police Detective Ed Neitzel said Holt was arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of theft of jewelry from an Oxnard residence where he was staying.

During the course of the investigation, police discovered that Holt was also being investigated in connection with the infant’s broken wrist, broken rib and other broken bones, police said.

Police said Holt pleaded guilty to a similar offense involving another infant and was on probation.

Holt was being held Tuesday in Ventura County Jail.
