Erratic fall weather in the Midwest damaged thousands of Christmas trees just before the holiday season, forcing consumers to choose different kinds. Scotch pines, which growers say are the most popular, were hardest hit by the cold snap, which turned them an unattractive brown. But because sellers have brought in trees from other states and sold different varieties, no shortage is expected.
