R.E.M.
Warner Reprise Video ($19.98) * * * True to the band’s name, R.E.M.’s haphazard videos typically do approximate some kind of dreamtime. So while this collection of clips, mostly accompanying songs from the “Out of Time” album, may seem dull in waking hours, its combination of striking hi-fi sound and choppy, impressionist imagery makes for perfect late-night entertainment during those about-to-doze-off mind fogs. The widely seen “Losing My Religion” and “Shiny Happy People” remain the standouts, as are acoustic concert renditions of “Religion” and the Troggs’ “Love Is All Around”; the remaining six unreleased clips tend toward experimentalism and highly subjective scenery. Nighty-night.
