EASY RIDER: Newport Coast Road, which opened three weeks ago, was supposed to reduce traffic congestion along the coast in South County. So how’s it doing? Great, Newport Beach police spokesman Andy Gonis says. . . . “It’s definitely easing traffic in the Corona del Mar area, especially during peak hours,” he says. The 6-mile road, which snakes through the San Joaquin Hills off Coast Highway just south of Newport Beach, is used widely by commuters from Laguna Beach and those farther south.
