STYLE : Beautifully Bare

The models glowed with the softest of tans: Cheekbones, noses and foreheads blushed warm pink to suggest a leisurely day at the beach. To complement Calvin Klein’s spring fashion show, makeup artist Francois Nars created an appealing no-color approach to makeup.

Understated eyes were the main attraction. Nars used very little mascara, eyeliner or eye shadow. Lips appeared unpainted when coated with near-nude shades. Because everything was seamlessly blended, complexions were matte and monochromatic. The only apparent color was the sun-red powder Nars applied generously as a highlight.

The even-toned result not only flatters young supermodels such as Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford; it also updates the less-is-more philosophy experts recommend for older women.
