The Joslyn Adult Center, a senior citizens center funded by the city of Burbank, offers counseling on topics ranging from Medicare to private Medigap insurance and HMO programs. The 31st District Congress of Parents, Teachers and Students is sponsoring a workshop open to parents throughout the San Fernando Valley on how to protect children from abuse. The workshop, from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, will be led by Shayla Lever, director of the Office of Child Abuse Prevention for the Los Angeles Unified School District. FISH of West Valley, a nonprofit group that provides emergency services to the needy throughout the year, is seeking unwrapped toys as Christmas gifts for children. Donors are requested to purchase a toy and place it under one of 26 Christmas trees by Dec. 15. The trees are at the Mid-Valley Athletic Club, Reseda; St. James Presbyterian Church, Tarzana; Valley College, Van Nuys, and Prince of Peace and Woodland Hills Presbyterian churches in Woodland Hills.
