Bob Daniel, president of Chevron Corp.’s minerals subsidiary, will retire on Dec. 31 when the unit, Chevron Resources, discontinues operations now that virtually all of its assets have been sold off under a previously announced restructuring.

Daniel, 64, who has been with Chevron for 41 years, joined Chevron’s Canadian subsidiary in Calgary shortly after graduating with a degree in physics and geology from the University of Toronto. In 1977, he was named exploration manager for Chevron Resources and became president eight years later.

Since 1990, Chevron has sold the unit’s geothermal, uranium and gold properties, as well as the American Gilsonite Co. Three remaining minerals projects have been assigned to a new Chevron business unit.
