Glendale : Redevelopment Zone Study

Share

The Redevelopment Agency on Tuesday allocated $200,000 to study a proposed redevelopment zone along San Fernando Road paralleling the largely industrial western boundary of the city.

The money will be used to hire planning, financial and legal advisers to plan economic revitalization of an 800-acre area. Formation of a redevelopment zone will take about a year and include a series of public hearings before the city Planning Commission and Redevelopment Agency.

City officials hope to use property tax revenues generated in the area to buy land and buildings for new development, including large discount retail stores. The money also could be used to build commuter rail transportation lines along the Southern Pacific Railroad corridor. The city now has only one redevelopment zone, formed in 1972 in the downtown area along Brand Boulevard.
