Willmer Named to Seat on City’s School Board

The Beverly Hills school board appointed AJ Willmer to an empty seat on the panel Thursday night, ending a tumultuous week brought about by the unexpected resignation of a newly elected board member.

Willmer, who came within 22 votes of winning a seat in the Nov. 5 election, took his oath of office at the specially called meeting. Four board members listened to testimony from more than 50 teachers and community activists before taking their unanimous vote.

Peggy Goldwyn, the only incumbent to run for reelection, submitted her resignation on Dec. 4, saying that she thinks the new board does not intend to build on the work of the old board. Goldwyn had won another four-year term, coming in just 21 votes ahead of Willmer.
