Five people were selected for the new Human Services Commission from a group of 21 applicants. The commission will review grant applications and make recommendations to the council as to how it should spend the $50,000 annual human services fund.

The five commissioners are Dorothy Baird, an educator and librarian; Josefina Barton, a member of the Chamber of Commerce; Karen Casey, a planner; Mike Nemeth, a probation officer; and Mary Stringfield, a psychologist.

The commissioners’ length of service will be staggered. A lottery at the commissions’ swearing-in ceremony Jan. 14 will determine who will serve two-year terms and who will serve four-year terms.
