The post office is bracing for an avalanche on Monday, the day it expects the biggest mail volume of the year.

The Monday before Christmas week is traditionally the agency’s busiest day. Officials expect to cancel 234 million cards and letters that day.

The agency expects to handle a total of 3.1 billion cards and letters by the end of the holidays.
