Oak Park Board to Discuss $4 Million in Bonds for Schools

Share

The Oak Park school board on Tuesday will consider whether to approve a $4-million bond issue to complete construction of a middle school and begin work on a new elementary school.

About $1.5 million of the $4 million would be used to finish paying for construction of Medea Creek Middle School, which is scheduled to open next fall, school district spokesman Stan Mantooth said. The remainder would be used to furnish the middle school and to draw up plans for a new elementary school, he said.

School officials have not yet decided where the new elementary school will be built or what grades it will house, Mantooth said.

The proposed bond issue already has been approved by voters, he said. When the school district was founded in 1977, Oak Park voters authorized school officials to issue up to $40 million in bonds. The district has so far issued about $20 million to build Oak Park High School, Oak Hills Elementary School and Medea Creek Middle School, Mantooth said.

The new $4-million bond issue is not expected to increase the assessment rate that Oak Park property owners are charged, Mantooth said.
