NBA ROUNDUP : Shorthanded Pistons Get Past Nuggets
With Isiah Thomas at home nursing an eye injury Monday night, the Detroit Pistons needed Joe Dumars and Darrell Walker to help fill the offensive void against the Denver Nuggets.
Dumars scored 27 points--13 in the fourth quarter--and Walker added 13, nine over his average, to lead the short-handed Pistons past the Nuggets, 103-89.
Detroit played without Thomas, out after suffering a 40-stitch cut over his eye in Saturday’s loss in Utah; and John Salley, still sidelined with a knee injury.
The Pistons used a 20-8 third-quarter run to pull out to a 72-58 lead to take control.
Portland 119, Minnesota 104--Clyde Drexler scored 24 points, Terry Porter added 17 and Danny Ainge had 16 to lead the Trail Blazers, who are 10-5 at home.
Tony Campbell scored 25 points, Doug West had 21 and Pooh Richardson 20 for Minnesota, which has lost eight games in a row and is 1-9 on the road.
