OJAI : Water Board Delays Vote on Restrictions

Share

The Casitas Municipal Water District board of directors postponed a decision Wednesday on whether to enact a program to restrict water use among the district’s customers.

After officials from two water agencies and the city of Ojai asked for more time to review the proposed program, the board voted unanimously to continue a public hearing on the issue until Jan. 8.

Tom Bunosky, operations manager for Southern California Water Co., told the board that his company had been given only two days to examine recent revisions to the proposed program.

Officials from the company, which purchases water from Casitas, have questioned the legality of some of the program’s provisions, he said.

Ojai City Manager Andy Belknap also said more time was needed because Southern California Water officials could not answer his questions about whether Ojai residents would be eligible for discounted water-conservation rates that will be made available to other water users.
