Civic Light Opera Project Wins Praise

Share

Regarding the recent article concerning the South Bay Civic Light Opera, I wish to applaud the action of the mayor and City Council of Redondo Beach for giving the arts a leg up.

I, for one, am tired of taking that long drive to downtown, Century City or Long Beach to see shows, paying top dollar for mediocre seats, (and) fear of being mugged after parking in a pricey parking structure. I am excited at the prospect of being able to dine in a local restaurant and attend theater in my own neighborhood.

I have to disagree with the two council members who think people either will not or cannot buy tickets for a professional show. The movies nowadays are nearly as costly as the lowest priced tickets being offered. Historically, too, during times of depression and recession, people often seek escapist entertainment to forget their everyday problems.

Bravo for the South Bay Civic Light Opera! I’m going!

P.S. I hope Mrs. (Marilyn) White (soon to be council member in District 5) is as enthusiastic as the people in her district are.
