Motor Home, Boat Restrictions Deplored

Share

I was astonished to learn from the South Bay News (Times, Dec. 1) that the Palos Verdes Estates City Council “moved closer to a new law restricting the parking of motor homes and boats on public streets and private property.”

Aside from the other requirements being considered relating to screening, parking permits, etc., it seems to me that the City Council, in even considering such a measure, may be inadvertently flirting with making it possible for only wealthy residents to conveniently enjoy affordable boating and extended recreational travel. Wealthy residents can afford keeping a larger boat at a marina anchorage and can more readily manage extended recreational travel sans recreational vehicles without the financial strain these approaches would cause people limited to more modest incomes.
