Light Sentence Sends Wrong Message

Share

Regarding the two UCI students who were charged with felony counts of conspiracy, burglary and possession of stolen property and (who) after pleading guilty guilty to misdemeanor counts of stealing tests were sentenced only to perform community service hours: I am appalled (“2 Former UCI Students Plead Guilty to Stealing Tests,” Dec. 5).

By their actions, these students have shown contempt and disdain for the University of California system. They should be punished for their flagrant and cynical abuse of the institution that served them. For them to be let off so easily not only conveys the wrong message but denigrates the efforts and integrity of the UCI faculty and of their fellow students.
