Austin-Magers Team Advances to Final

Tracy Austin, whose potentially brilliant professional career was cut short because of injuries, won two doubles matches Saturday to advance to today’s final of the $7,500 Kramer Classic at the Jack Kramer Club in Rolling Hills Estates.

Austin teamed with Gretchen Magers for a 6-1, 6-4 quarterfinal victory over Amanda Agustus and Janet Lee of Peninsula High, and a 6-2, 6-1 semifinal win over Laxmi Poruri of Stanford and Kirsten Dreyer of Rancho Palos Verdes.

Camille Benjamin and Jennifer Santrock also advanced to the final, defeating Lea Antonoplis and Cammy MacGregor, 6-7, 7-6, 6-1, in the quarterfinals and former Miraleste High and UCLA standout Kim Po and Debbie Graham, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinals.

Stephanie Rehe advanced to the women’s singles final with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Benjamin. Debbie Graham, the 1990 NCAA singles champion, ousted Poruri, a former teammate, 6-2, 6-0, in the other semifinal. The women’s final is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today.

Michael Joyce will play Alex Nizet for the men’s singles title at 11 a.m. today. Joyce beat Robbie Weiss, 6-3, 6-4. Nizet advanced with a three-hour 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6) victory over Pat Crow.
