U.S.-China Talks Stall: The latest U.S.-Chinese negotiations on protecting American copyrights, patents and trademarks have failed, but another round of talks is planned, an assistant U.S. trade representative said. Massey said the Chinese have agreed to submit a new text at a meeting in early January. The site has not been decided. Last week, U.S. Trade Representative Carla Hills set a Jan. 16 deadline for the end of the negotiations. If no agreement is reached, the United States will go ahead with plans to impose punitive tariffs of up to 100% on a range of Chinese goods.
