Dial to Take $180-Million Charge: The Dial Corp. said it plans to spin off its finance unit to stockholders will take a $180-million bite out of profit in the current quarter. The writeoffs were an expected part of the spinoff plan the company announced earlier this year. The conglomerate, which makes soap and consumer products such as Breck shampoo and Brillo pads, is separating its loan and mortgage insurance operations into a new company to be known as Greyhound Financial Corp. It also is considering a similar spinoff of its bus-making operations.
