Lee E. Rawlings; Minister

Lee E. Rawlings, who was minister of North Oaks Church of Christ in Canyon Country for 18 years, has died at a Banning hospital. He was 76.

A former Canyon Country resident, Rawlings died Saturday of pneumonia, said his granddaughter, Kim Quinn of Apple Valley.

Born in Savannah, Ga., Rawlings graduated from David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tenn., and preached at churches in Georgia, Florida and Texas. He came to California in 1950, where he ministered at churches in several areas, including Burbank, Sun Valley, Palmdale and Victorville.

In 1971, he became minister of North Oaks Church of Christ, where he preached until a 1989 car accident.

From the mid-1940s until early 1970s, Rawlings was the host of a weekly religious radio show, “Bible Answers to Your Bible Questions,” first in Texas, then in California. He also organized religious teaching workshops, gospel meetings and vacation Bible schools.

Rawlings is survived by his son, Elvin Rawlings of Arizona; a daughter, Janelle Quinn of Apple Valley, and five grandchildren. His wife of 50 years, Doris Rawlings, died in 1989.

Visitation will begin at noon Friday, followed by a funeral at 2 p.m. at Eternal Valley Mortuary, 23287 N. Sierra Highway, Newhall. Burial will follow at Eternal Valley Memorial Park.
