The exercise in kid power continues.

Debut magazine, created by a pint-sized staff of eight last year, has since scored a cover story interview even Los Angeles magazine would envy: Macaulay Culkin, star of “Home Alone” and “My Girl.”

The New York-Los Angeles telephone interview was made possible through the help of editor Annie Meyers-Shyer’s parents, Charles Shyer and Nancy Meyers, who are writers, directors and producers of “Father of the Bride.” Macaulay’s brother, Kiran, appears in the movie.

Annie (whose byline identifies her as editor and chief), 11, and editor Christina Bilao-Tyrell, 13, say Macaulay talks about handling fame as a kid.

It is billed as the “First Magazine for Kids by Kids.” Its premiere issue featured an interview with cartoonist Matt Groening. Singer Paula Abdul, whom the staff also interviewed, appeared on the cover of the second issue (circulation 250), released in June.

Christina says she’s confident that distribution numbers of the Macaulay issue, delayed until January or February because of “intense homework,” will top 1,500. The magazine, which sells for 50 cents a copy, is also handed out free.

While 1991 saw scores of magazines fold because of dismal ad revenues, Annie says Debut has doubled its editorial content because of a jump in ads. The next issue will have 50 pages, up 20 from the last.

“We got six ads,” she says. “We didn’t have any before. And at $150 a page, that’s a lot of money.”
