VENTURA : 4 Held to Stand Trial in Burglary Attempt
Four Los Angeles County residents were ordered Thursday to stand trial on charges that they tried to burglarize a Ventura jewelry store.
After a preliminary hearing that featured videotape from security cameras, Ventura County Municipal Judge Steven Hintz ruled that there was sufficient evidence to warrant a trial for Pedro Ortiz, Dionicio Bedoya, Carmen Martinez and Pedro Cruz. They are charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary.
Investigators said the four suspects were among eight people who entered Lynn’s Jewelry on East Main Street on the afternoon of Dec. 1. After one member of the group tried to steal a small box of jewelry and then fled empty-handed, store owner Bob Lynn locked the others inside the store and called police.
Hintz decided that there was insufficient evidence to hold the three others.
The four still in custody are being held in the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $100,000 each. They will be arraigned Jan. 10 before Superior Court Judge Frederick A. Jones.
