U.S. to Boost Duties on Canadian Beer: The United States will impose substantially higher duties on Canadian beer in April because of alleged unfair Canadian treatment of U.S. beer, U.S. Deputy Trade Representative Julius Katz said. He said the duties will be imposed no later than April 10. Until then, he said, Washington and Ottawa will continue to try to negotiate a solution to the alleged unfair practices. The United States acted after a General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade panel found that provincial liquor boards discriminated against U.S. and other foreign beers in violation of GATT trade regulations.
