Muslim fundamentalists opposed to Arab-Israeli peace talks hurled rocks and bottles at Palestinian leader Faisal Husseini on Monday as he spoke in support of negotiations, Arab sources said.

Husseini, a top adviser to Palestinian negotiators to the peace talks, was addressing more than 1,500 residents of the West Bank town of Tulkarm when Palestinians from the Hamas movement began chanting “Down with the traitors!”

Husseini was not hurt and was escorted out of the hall by supporters, but three people were injured in the brawl, Arab sources said.

Later, Husseini had to use a side door to dodge about 50 Jewish militants chanting “PLO out!” and brandishing posters reading: “Death to Husseini the Inciter.” That incident occurred at Tel Aviv University, where Husseini addressed about 1,000 Israeli students.
