Deputy Wounds Worker at Vista Shop
A 28-year-old cement finisher, who was shot in the left leg by a San Diego County sheriff’s deputy serving an arrest warrant at a Vista auto shop, was in stable condition Tuesday at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, authorities said.
Louis Jose Liegghio was shot about 6:30 p.m. Monday by Deputy Morse Taylor, the Sheriff’s Department said. The deputy fired after Liegghio reached under his jacket while officers were combing through Coffin Smog & Tune in the 1400 block of Santa Fe Avenue, sheriff’s officials said.
No further details of the shooting were available, sheriff’s officials said.
Taylor was part of a federal and county task force serving a warrant on Julio Lopez-Ramos, who is wanted for intimidating a federal witness, officials said. Officers detained Lopez-Ramos, whose age and occupation were not released, and three others after the search.
The incident marked the second time this week that sheriff’s deputies shot someone. Two deputies shot a man to death Dec. 25 near Barrett Junction, saying he threatened motorists on California 94 with a 5-foot shovel, officials said.
