Stray Bullet Fired in Robbery Wounds Boy
A 9-year-old boy was in critical condition Wednesday after being struck in the head by a stray bullet fired during a robbery at a South Los Angeles intersection, police said.
The shooting occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on the 1600 block of West Florence Avenue, moments after four men in a van stopped a parked car and robbed the driver, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Randy Minini.
One robber then removed the driver from the car at gunpoint, firing a shot as he drove away in the stolen vehicle. The boy was standing in a nearby storefront when the bullet struck him in the head, police and witnesses said.
The victim was taken to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center where he was reported in critical but stable condition. Because of the boy’s age, police did not divulge his name.
