Navy Awards Contracts for New Jets: The awards of $20 million each went to five teams competing to build the next generation AX attack jet, a stealthy successor to the outdated A-6. The awards went to teams led by Rockwell International, Lockheed, McDonnell Douglas, General Dynamics and Grumman. Some of the contractors are on more than one team. In early 1993, the competing teams will submit proposals for the next phase in the program, the big demonstration/validation phase that will include two of the teams.
