Baker on Russian Nuclear Arms

Share

Nuclear madness strikes again! Baker’s absurd response to the denuclearization of the former Soviet Union speaks volumes about the Bush Administration’s lingering commitment to the Cold War, nuclear weaponry and military Keynesianism.

While we have come to expect inanities and outmoded thinking from this Administration, it is unfortunate that The Times acts as the dutiful gatekeeper in its support of the underlying premises of Baker’s position. Calling those who want to get rid of all nuclear weapons “utopian,” the article brings up the outlandish and discredited canard of a terrorist nation holding one atomic bomb and blackmailing the world.

Hasn’t there been enough nuclear blackmail by the superpowers, especially by Washington policy-makers over the years, to end any further reliance on these instruments of death?
