The Navy and Crime

Share

It would be unfair to the more than 93,000 Navy men and women in San Diego to categorize the recent incidents involving Navy members as a “Navy crime wave.” We are aware of the problem of violent crime both by and against sailors, and are taking positive steps to reduce the chance of Navy people getting caught up it by increasing their awareness of potential and known problem areas.

Specific steps include increased cooperation with civilian law enforcement, ensuring Navy facilities are adequately supervised and Shore Patrol is properly trained, controlling the possession of dangerous weapons and ensuring that the disciplinary control board identify problem areas and place them off limits if necessary.
