Theme Cruises

There is a negative side to the Norway’s theme cruises (“All That Jazz on the New Norway,” Cruise Views, Dec. 8). Our travel agent failed to tell us that the Nov. 9 sailing was a “country and Western cruise.” We were stuck for a week with 300-plus passengers who wore Western garb and insisted on country and Western entertainment from morning to night. We hate country and Western music!

While the authors wrote about the recent renovation program, which added new staterooms to the Norway, they neglected to tell readers that the old, former SS France is not aging very well. We were assigned a cabin which was filthy, in poor condition and had not been serviced properly (used toiletries from the previous cruise were still in the bathroom, etc.). When we complained, we were assigned another cabin, which was smaller than the combined size of two solitary confinement cells at Alcatraz, with a broken TV and drawers that would not close. Rate without air fare: $3,250.
