Bye, Bye Love: Twentieth Television, in an unprecedented decision, has decided not to produce the remaining five episodes of “Anything but Love” this season for ABC. The comedy series, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Richard Lewis, premiered in the spring of 1989 and has produced about 60 episodes. But Fox executives decided the series would be only marginally profitable in reruns and decided to pull the plug early to avoid further losses. The move underscores the difficult economics facing TV program production, where even hits such as “Designing Women” are earning in syndication less than half of what they would have three years ago because of declining audiences and the recession, which has reduced advertising revenue.
