3 Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Placentia Youth New Year’s Day
Three people were arrested Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Placentia youth on New Year’s Day, authorities said.
Arrested on suspicion of murder were Jose Luis Magana, 21, and two juveniles, both 17, all of La Habra. Magana was transferred to Orange County Jail, while the juveniles were being held in Juvenile Hall in Orange, police said.
Acting on a tip, detectives recovered a weapon at 315 E. 2nd St. on Wednesday night. Police said they believe it was the weapon used to gun down Cesar Edwards Ramirez more than a week ago.
Ramirez was shot several times in the chest in the driveway of a small apartment complex on South Monte Vista Avenue at 1:20 a.m. He died at the scene.
It was the county’s first gang-related shooting this year, police said.
