Mexico Cracks Down on Owners of Luxury Cars: As part of an effort to halt the flow of cars illegally entering the country, Mexico is cracking down on owners of foreign luxury and sports cars who have not paid required import taxes. The government, in a statement issued by the Finance Ministry, said it will give the owners of luxury and sports cars 10 days starting today to take them out of Mexico or face confiscation of their vehicles and charges of smuggling. Among the cars the government considers in the luxury and sports class are those manufactured by Maserati, Porsche, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce and Jaguar. Local press reports put the import taxes at roughly 18% of the value of the car.
